Cyanotype Photographic Workshop

Come join Joanna Aloysia and Kelly McKaig for a creative Sunday afternoon! In this workshop we will teach you the photographic process of cyanotyping. We will teach you how to mix these benign chemicals to make a photosensitive wash, sensitize the paper, how to make a photogram, and how to develop the image to get that amazing blue. After that, it’s all experimentation and hanging out in the sunshine.

This workshop will be mostly outdoors and will be a little messy, so plan for a day of playing with flowers, lightly splashing in water, and painting. We will be providing various objects to help you make a photogram: flowers, glass, feathers, leaves, paperclips, keys, safety pins, translucent fabric, lace, etc. Light snacks and non-alcoholic beverages will be provided.

Please bring your own:

Cost: $100/person with a max capacity of 8 guests

Although the workshop is planned for Sunday, June 23rd, we have a rain date of Sunday, June 30th planned as sunlight is very important to this process. You will receive an email no later than Saturday, June 22nd at 12pm if we need to reschedule.

Natural Dyeing with Avocado Pits and Onion Skins

Come join Joanna Aloysia and Kelly McKaig for a creative Sunday afternoon dyeing fabric. We’ll teach you how to make each of the two natural dye baths, and you will be dyeing two Habotai silk scarves (30" x 30") that are included in the price of the workshop. There will be an additional resist technique tutorial. Light snacks and non-alcoholic beverages provided.

Avocado pits dye fabric to a soft pink color and yellow onion skins dye fabric to a golden color.

If you choose to bring your additional fabric or your own garment, we ask that it is white/un-dyed and that you bring the item clean (preferably scoured). Keep in mind the fabric must be non-synthetic, so you may bring silk, wool, cotton, or linen. This natural dye will not adhere to synthetic fibers.

Let’s see what magic can happen!

Cost: $90/person with a max capacity of 10 guests
